Kenya: Siaya Teachers' Demands

The KNUT Siaya county branch has demanded for upgrading of teachers who have advanced in their education.

They have threatened to go on strike when schools reopen next year if their demands are not met.

Led by Siaya branch executive secretary Gilbert Ndolo, the teachers said the government should upgrade the teachers by December 31.

Speaking in Siaya town yesterday, Ndolo said the government is adamant to promote teachers who have acquired higher education.

He said teachers who acquired diploma, degree and master certificates should be promoted to motivate them in their work.

Ndolo praised teachers in Siaya county saying about 80 per cent of them have advanced beyond the P1 certificate.

He challenged those who have not advanced their education to do so.

Ndolo cautioned teachers going back to school to enroll in recognised institutions.
