Sudan: Fire Destroys Camp School in North Darfur - Arson Suspected

El Fasher — A devastating fire destroyed a basic school for girls on Monday evening in the Abu Shouk camp, west of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

One of the sheikhs of the Abu Shouk camp told Radio Dabanga that a massive fire broke out on Monday at about 5pm in the El Salam Basic School for Girls. The fire burned the entire school, consisting of 12 class rooms and two offices, to ashes, along with all the books, notebooks, and other educational tools.

The sheikh stated that the fire was caused by arson. He accused "government-backed agents" of being behind the fire, noting that this is the fourteenth fire of its kind since the establishment of the school.
