Sudan: Highway Robberies Curtail Road Transport to Darfur

Khartoum — The Sudanese National Chamber of Transport has announced the suspension of lorry transport to the Darfur states because of the continuing assaults and armed robberies.

The member of the National Parliament, Ali Abarsi, accused the government of failing to resolve the armed robbery issues in the Darfur states. "On Sunday alone, 15 lorries were plundered. In the month of December a total of 60 lorries have been looted," the parliamentarian stated. He said that the total of losses for each lorry transporting goods amounted to SDG4 million ($700,000).
