Kenya: Shoplifter Nabbed in Nyeri Town

A woman was on Monday caught shoplifting at a supermarket in Nyeri town. Jane Nyawira, 40, was found with a two kilogramme packet of wheat flour, one kilogramme of rice and a kilogramme of cooking fat at Slopes Supermarket.

The mother-of-two from Endarasha in Kieni West subcounty said she wanted to prepare chapatis for her family to celebrate the new year. A good samaritan paid Sh2,000 for the goods. Nyawira was later released by the supermarket guards.

A security officer in the supermarket, James Nduriri, said he saw the woman stash some goods in her handbag when she thought no one was looking.

Nduriri stopped Nyawira as she was leaving the supermarket and searched her bag revealing the stolen items. The items were estimated to cost about Sh350.
