Rwanda: Food Prices Stable in Kigali

Prices of most foodstuffs and other commodities are stable in markets and shops in the City of Kigali despite the soaring demand during the festive season.

A kilogramme of beef costs Rwf2,300 a kilo, fish is unchanged at between Rwf2,500 and Rwf3,000 a kilogramme in Nyarugenge and Kimironko markets, respectively, while chicken goes for Rwf10,000 in Remera and Nyamirambo markets.

Maize flour is at Rwf600, while millet flour costs Rwf1,200 a kilo.

Bananas cost between Rwf180 and Rwf200 a kilogramme in Kicuciro and Gikondo, respectively, down from Rwf280 last week.

Ground nuts cost Rwf1,200 a kilo and that of beans is at between Rwf500 and Rwf600 in Kimironko market.

Irish potatoes cost Rwf190 a kilo in Nyabugogo and Kimironko markets.

Fresh peas go for Rwf1,500 per kilogramme in Giporoso and Kimironko markets, while a five-litre jerrycan of cooking oil is stable at Rwf6,500 in Nyarungenge market.

Cabbage costs Rwf600 (big) in Kicukiro market and carrots Rwf700 a kilogramme.

A tray of eggs costs Rwf2,200 in Gikondo, while a litre of paraffin is at Rwf1,000 at gas stations in the city.

Passion fruits are at Rwf1,800 in markets and Rwf2,000 in supermarkets and pineapples cost between Rwf500 and Rwf700, depending on size.
