Kaduna — Alhaji Jafaru Makarfi, 84, was a veteran worker of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC). The octogenarian who joined the corporation in 1950 served in various stations scattered across the country. In this interview, Makarfi who was the first northerner to serve as District Superintendent in the western district of the corporation speaks on the famous Langalanga accident of 1970, the groundnut pyramids, the purchase of trailers by backers of Northern People's Congress (NPC) that contributed to the decline of the fortunes of the corporation and other unreported event that occurred in the NRC before Independence and after. You worked with the NRC for many years before you were appointed as a civil commissioner in 1975 by late Group Captain Usman Jibril. Can you tell us your journey in the corporation?
