The Embu county government and assembly started the new year at loggerheads after the latter blocked the former from using Sh109 million for some projects.
The assembly on Tuesday declined to approve the use of the money by the executive in its supplementary budget for the 2013-14 financial year for failing to give details on the projects for which the money is intended.
The assembly unanimously adopted a report prepared by the its Budget and Appropriation Committee recommending a total rejection of the request for the fund's usage.
The county government had requested for Sh39 million to buy land to compensate Embu Agricultural Farmers Centre whose 40 acres is intended to be taken for upgrading of the Embu Provincial General Hospital into a teaching and referral hospital. The county government said it wants to start a cancer and diagnostic centre at the hospital.
