Besides the religious gathering on each New Year's eve, the Buganda carnival, dubbed Enkuuka y'omwaka, is by far the most attended event that day.
The show, organized by the kingdom's radio station CBS in Lubiri, is how the kingdom light-heartedly ends the year while crowning winners from the six-month long Entanda ya Buganda quiz competition that tests people's knowledge of Buganda. All the gates at Lubiri were open as early as 5am and people started making their way to the grounds even when machines were just being tested.
