Kenya: NGOs Protest Delay in Hiring Workers for Kwale County

CIVIL societies in Kwale have protested the cancellation of the county's staff interviews which were slated for yesterday. They include; Kwale Human Rights Network, Segeju Survival Movement, Maendeleo ya Wanawake, Msambweni Human Rights Watch, Kwale Welfare Education Association, Sauti ya Wanawake, Msambweni Kwale Hurinet and Active Citizen.

Yesterday the county assembly shelved plans to hire nurses, drivers and nursery school teachers. MCAs agreed to halt the interviews until they receive an investigation report on graft claims on the labour committe.

But the groups said the decision is ill informed and against the will of Kwale people who urgently need ECD teachers, health workers and new ambulances.

Led by Kwale Interfaith Organization chairman Sheikh Kassim Zani the group said the MCAs who supported the motion did not consider the social and economic impact the staff shortage has on Kwale residents.
