Zimbabwe: Gran (70) Busted With U.S.$70, 000 Cannabis Stash

POLICE have confirmed arresting a 70 year-old drug-dealing gran in Bulawayo over the festive season.

Josephine Sithole was nabbed at her Gwabalanda home on Tuesday this week during a routine police operation aimed at curbing crime and drug abuse in the city.

A 70 kg stash of cannabis worth close to $70,000 was found by sniffer dogs in her en-suite bathroom.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo, confirmed the bust.

"Knowing that during this season there would be disturbances because of the excitement and abuse of dagga, we decided to launch investigations to stop crime," said Inspector Moyo.

"Consequently after searching, we arrested a 70-year-old woman from Gwabalanda who had 69,6 kilogrammes of dagga worth $69,600."

The raid followed a tip-off from members of the public.

"We will not rest until sanity returns. Youngsters who are the largest consumers of dagga become irresponsible and cause disturbances on our roads and also end up committing crime such as theft," Insp. Moyo added.
