Gambia: Chief of Sami District Alh Kassum Leigh Dies

Crr — The chief of Sami, Alhaji Kassum Leigh, on Saturday, 4 January passed away at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul after a short illness.

The late Chief Leigh died at the age of 65. He was appointed chief of Sami on the 22nd April 2008 after the dismissal of Alhaji Morro Jawla. He was laid to rest on Saturday evening at his home village in Sami Pachonki, in the Central River Region (CRR) north. The funeral was attended by the governor of the region Alhaji Ganyie Touray; his deputy; the paramount chief, Alhaji Demba Sanyang, members of the National Council of Seyfolu, NAMs of CRR, regional chiefs, among other dignitaries. The late chief is survived by four wives and several children.
