Somalia: Puntland Security Agencies Suspend Business Transit to and From the Central and Middle Somalia Until Elections.

Puntland security agencies have suspended business transit vehicles from the south and central Somalia until the presidential elections which is due on January 8th.

Puntland traffic police commandant who is also responsible for security during the electioneering period said during a press conference in Garowe that all major roads entering the city will be closed during the election process for security purposes.

'All business transit vehicles to and from central and south Somalia particularly from Bosaso port will be halted until the elections for security reasons." Puntland internal security minister Khalif Issa said.

There were stiff measures to beef up the security by the Puntland security apparatus for the past few weeks to ensure peaceful elections in the well contested presidential elections in the semi autonomous region.

Incumbent president Abdirahman Farole and former Somali PM Professor Abdiweli Mohamed Gas are some of the major presidential candidates expected to be the game changers in the Puntland political landscape
