Since South Sudan's political crisis turned violent on 15 December 2013, the dynamics of conflict have left little hope that the standoff between the different factions can be settled swiftly.
The cease fire negotiations which began on 4th January continue to be overshadowed by military posturing. Riek Machar, on behalf of the armed opposition, recently announced that "Juba will fall soon".
