Egypt: Necessary Arrangements Finalized to Apply Minimum Wage As of January

Minister of Finance, Ahmed Galal said on Friday 10/01/2014 that the necessary arrangements have been finalized to apply the minimum wage policy to civil servants as of this January.

Galal said the new raise would be set according to the post each employee holds.

On September 18, the Cabinet announced a minimum wage for public sector employees of 1,200 pounds per month and said it should come into force early in 2014.

The raises are estimated to cost the government an additional EGP 18 billion annually.
