Uganda: Report - Why Political Parties Are 'So Weak'

Uganda's political parties have been accused of failing to develop "clear and well-articulated" ideologies, something that has left them too weak to influence the country's governance.

In a highly critical report, the Foundation for Human Rights Imitative (FHRI) says Uganda's multiparty democracy remains an illusion rather than a reality, nine year's since President Museveni's 'Movement' accepted to compete with other parties. After 19 years of 'individual merit' politics, the country voted in a 2005 referendum to return to multiparty politics. But the report says this is not working.
