Somalia: Gov't Soldiers Exchange Gunfire in Qoryeley, 12 Killed

Qoryoley — At least 12 people are known to have been killed and 10 others were injured after Somali Gov't solders exchanged gunfire in Bariire locality of lower Shabelle region on Sunday , according to local residents.

The deadly clash erupted after Somali soldiers escorting a mini-van carrying passengers from Afgoeye district, heading to Qoryooley town clashed with another Gov't troops at a checkpoint located 23 Km south of Afgooye town.

A resident who declined to be named told Shabelle Media station in Mogadishu that the three of 12 killed were said to be Gov't soldiers while 9 others are reported to have been civilian.

He added that the wounded passengers on the minibus were immediately were rushed to local hospital in Mogadishu for treatment.

Despite the attack, The situation is calm and things are returned back to normal according to local residents who spoke to Shabelle Media.

Qoryoley, a town just located 53 Km northwest of Somali capital city of Mogadishu.
