The international maritime officials said on Monday that a merchant ship was forcibly boarded by Eritrean forces.

The merchant vessel, MV Marzooqah was in the Eritrean territorial waters when the incident happened late on Sunday, the Maritime officials said.

It was not immediately clear what the motive of thew Eritrean forces was when they boarded the ship. The ship was now heading to the Eritrea coast.

There were no any comment from Eritrea on this incident.

Earlier on Sunday the international media immediately reported that Somali pirates boarded and hijacked the merchant ship but a spokeswoman for the European Union Naval Forces operating off the Somali Coast dismissed the report saying that it was not a pirate group.
