Former Division 2 champion Onkar Singh Rai led from start to finish to win the Simba FCS Rally organised by Sikh Union Club in Isinya, Kajiado county on Sunday.
Co-driven by the 2013 KNRC navigators champion Ravi Soni in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVOX, Onkar clocked 55.17minutes to beat Subaru N10's Imran Mogul to second place whilst Davinder Saimbi in a new EVO9 settled for third place.
"The rally was a good test for Onkar in the EVO X in preparation for the KNRC season. The idea was to test it and make sure that it's running well mechanically. Onkar also needed to get a feel of it again after driving the Porsche in Safari Classic Rally," Onkar's navigator Soni said.
Adnan Din scooped second place after calling the pace notes for Mogul in a Subaru N10. "We had an issue with the gear selector in the first two stages then lost second gear and sixth gear. We also snapped the drive-shaft 4 Kms into the final section,'" Adnan said.
Davinder's navigator Dipps Mehangra said: "We had two problems which cost us about three minutes. Apart from that, we were driving a new car and getting accustomed to it. We will be driving the Evo 9 in the Malindi Rally and hopefully, our EVOX will be here in time for the next KNRC event."
Asad Khan 'Kalulu' navigated by Riyaz Ismail in a Subaru Legacy came in fourth. "We were well on course for a podium but in the last stage,e the turbo blew and we had to crawl to finish. But first in the s/spv class," said Riyaz. The rally which is part of the new low budget Formula Club Series (FCS) saw some crews fall by the wayside. Casualties were Issa Amwari (engine, CS2), Jasmeil Ghataure and Pavit Kenth.
"We were looking forward to a day of great fun and action but the car lost power and stopped towards Kajiado. When we checked we found out that
one of the turbo pipes had cracked and oil was leaking. We tried all we could but there was no way we could sort it. To save further damage, we had to call it a day," Pavit's navigator Shameer Yusuf said.
Dennis Mwenda in 6th overall position won the 2WD Class. "The 2014 Rally Season has began and we can now officially announce our bid to defend the 2WD crown. The first FCS 1 of 2014 was a perfect start for us," said Mwenda.
