Children like Safiya are the real-life battlegrounds of malnutrition. It is a lifelong sentence of stunting and mental disproportion. At 10 months, when she should be walking, she is only learning to sit.
The figures that indicate the battle aren't changing much. In five year, prevalence of malnutrition dropped only one point--from 42% in 2003 to 41% in 2008, according to the National Demographic Health Survey.
