THE NEXT elections take place towards the end of 2014. It does not require any prophetic talent to predict that Swapo will remain firmly in political power and control.
Rather, the question is, which forms the election campaign takes, how Swapo responds to any challenges and to which extent the political opposition is willing to accept the results. The role of the electoral commission, the voter registration and the organisation of the elections, the number of votes and the vote count will all contribute to an assessment of Namibia's democracy in practice.
