Kenya: Northern Kenya Cultural and Peace Festival 2014

Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Arts Hassan Wario during the Northern Kenya Cultural and Peace Festival. Nomads from around the country gathered at the Bomas of Kenya on Saturday evening for the Northern Kenya Cultural and Peace Festival. Organised by Northern Kenya Tourism and Wildlife Association, the event was the first of its kind.

The event saw nine different communities come together namely the Turkana, Borana, Gusanach, Burji, Rendille, Gabbra, Konso, Samburu and Somali. Their main agenda was to provide a platform for peace and conflict, promote Northen Kenya as a premieum tourist destination and promote the culture and cultural development in Northern Kenya.

Chairman of the organising committee Tuqo Jirmo said that plans were underway to make the festival an annual, week-long function with representation from each community.

Also in attendance was the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Arts Dr Hassan Wario and the Director of the Bomas of Kenya.
