Kenya: Good News Over Cost of Electricity

ENERGY Secretary Davies Chirchir has said the price of electricity will drop by 40 per cent within three years.

Chirichir said the country expects to increase power generation by an extra 5,000mw at a cost of seven US cents within the same period.

"We expect an extra 100mw from Menengai by December and paper work for the 700mw and 960mw in Mombasa and Lamu respectively is going on," he said.

Chirchir was addressing the press in Olkaria, Naivasha after touring the Olkaria I and IV power plants under construction.

He was accompanied by his Industrialisation counterpart Adan Mohammed.
