Egypt: Sabahi's Popular Current Will Not Join Jan 25 Celebrations

Cairo — The Popular Current Party, founded by politician Hamdeen Sabahi, said on Saturday that it will not be joining the January 25 uprising's celebrations.

The party added in a statement on Saturday that the uprising has not yet accomplished its goals and that two factions are currently trying to hijack it.

It said that one group is trying to hijack the uprising under the name of celebrations to return Egypt to what it was before January 25 while another is dividing society under the name of religion to return things to what they were before June 30.

An Islamist alliance that supports ousted President Mohamed Mursi has called for demonstrations against the army while army supporters have also started gathering to celebrate.
