Kenya: Government Urges Truck Owners to Observe Axle Load Rules for Cargo

THE government has urged truck owners to ensure lorries are only loaded with correct cargo weight. Transport Secretary Michael Kamau said the move will reduce unnecessary penalties as well as delays at the weighbridges.

He said the government spends a lot of resources in maintaining roads damaged by trucks that ferry cargo beyond the recommended limit. "Carelessly driven or poorly maintained heavy commercial vehicles cause road carnage. It is the responsibility of owners to ensure the vehicles are in good condition," Kamau said.
