Ethiopia: Gondar-Debark Road Opens for Traffic

The 100km Gondar-Debark asphalt road constructed in Amhara State at a cost of 863 million Birr opened for traffic.

Speaking on the occasion, Ethiopian Roads Authority Director-General, Zaid Woldegebriel said upgrading the 60-year old road will play a major role in economic, social and tourism growth of the area.

The nation has been undertaking a number of road projects that benefit farmers and urban dwellers, he said.

The projects have also created jobs for hundreds of thousands of people across the country.

Transport Minister, Workneh Gebeyehu for his part said the road sector development program helped the country to increase road coverage.

The government managed to increase the total road length to 85,966km thereby reducing distance to main roads to 6km from the previous 21km.
