Nigeria: Why Jigawa Spent N36 Billion On Roads - Commissioner

Dutse — The Jigawa State Commissioner for Works and Transport Engineer Baba Aliyu has said that his ministry spent N36 billion on road construction in 2013 in order to open the state for its agricultural potentials to be tapped.

In a chat with Daily Trust, Aliyu said: "Jigawa has a lot of agricultural potentials that are yet to be tapped and the state is generally landlocked. We have engaged in massive road construction in the past six years so that our people can maximize their income from the various crops they produce. Roads like the western bypass from Maigatari-Galibi- Birniwa, which covers about 114 kilometres, will create accessibility for agric business to thrive between states in the north eastern region and even traders coming from Niger Republic"
