The Shai- Osudoku District formally Dangme West was created by a Legislative Instrument (LI 2137) and it is situated in the Southern part of Ghana, precisely sharing boundaries to the North-Eastern is North Tongu District, to the North-West is Yilo and Akwapim Districts, to the West, North Akwapim District, South-West is the Kpone- Katamanso District, to the South is Ningo Prampram District and the East is Ada West District.

The District was re-demarcated in June, 2012 when it was carved out of the Dangme West which now occupies a total land space of about 721 square kilometers, representing 21% of the total land area of the Greater Accra Region and it still remains the largest District in the Greater Accra Region. The District is predominately rural.
