Nigeria: Jonathan Appoints Gen Agwai New SURE-P Chairman

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday appointed Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd) as the substantive chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P)

Gen. Martin Agwai (rtd.) was until now the Deputy Chairman and Acting Chairman of SURE-P.

Jonathan also appointed Mrs. Tanwa Olusi as deputy chairman of SURE-P, while Nigeria's Ambassador to Switzerland, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze has been recalled to take up a new job as Special Adviser to the president On New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD).

Also appointed is Senator Suleiman M. Ajadi as Special Adviser to the president on National Assembly matters.

Jonathan also approved the appointment of Mr. Sola Omole as Director General of the Nigeria Television Authority and Alhaji Ladan Salihu as Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

The president also appointed his former Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ima Niboro as the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

A statement by Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati to this effect noted that all the appointments are with immediate effect.

Abati said the appointments were also made in furtherance of efforts to continually strengthen the Jonathan administration on all fronts.
