Somalia: Buckling Under Al-Shabaab Pressure, Hormuud Shuts Off Internet Services in Mogadishu

Hormuud Telecom on Thursday (February 6th) disconnected mobile internet services in Mogadishu after increasing pressure from al-Shabaab militants who ordered telecommunications companies to stop providing internet services last month, Somalia's Mareeg reported.

Hormuud's shut down of mobile internet services in Mogadishu comes less than a week after al-Shabaab arrested 16 of the company's employees in Jilib town in Middle Jubba region, including branch manager Mohamud Haji Salad.
