For decades, Karamoja has remained that forgotten semi-arid patch in northeastern Uganda that not many outsiders are eager to go to.

But in recent years, it has appeared like this government is finally determined to mine Karamoja out of the depths of marginalisation and neglect - what with massive disarmament, talk of gold, and First Lady Janet Museveni as the area minister!
