Mozambique: Voter Registration Begins Saturday, Says CNE

Maputo — As far as Mozambique's National Elections Commission (CNE) is concerned, voter registration begins on Saturday, despite the request by the former rebel movement Renamo for a further postponement of ten days.

With less than 48 hours to go before the start of registration, Renamo, which had already secured a postponement from 30 January to 15 February, asked the government for a further delay. The matter was raised by Saimone Macuiana, head of the Renamo delegation to the Renamo-government dialogue, at the meeting held on Thursday. The head of the government delegation, Transport minister Gabriel Muthisse, said he would take the request to the Council of Ministers (Cabinet).
