Kenya: Over 400 Ghost Workers in Kakamega - Oparanya

16 February 2014

KAKAMEGA Governor Wycliffe Oparanya yesterday said more than 400 ghost workers have been earning salaries in the county. He said his government stopped paying 415 "health workers" in November and they have not showed up to complain.

"The national government transferred the workers to our county. We wanted them to explain how they entered the ministry payroll," said Oparanya on the phone. He said the ghost workers used to get Sh38 million every month.
