Somalia: Bloodshed and Explosions Breaks Out in Lower Shabelle

According to recent news from Afgooye district, it is rumoured that on the outskirts of the district, fighters from Al-Shabaab carried out an attack on base stationed with Somali government troops.

The fight was ongoing for a few hours and an official from the Somali government reported that it brought numerous deaths and severe casualties to the fighters of both opposition, although the headcount of those killed and those wounded are not exactly known.

On the other hand, Tadaama territory which is still within the Afgooye district was hit by an explosion targeted at troops from the Somali government though casualties have not yet been confirmed.

The district administration of Afgooye of the Somali government, with whom we have made contact with hasn't yet outlined the consequences of the violent confrontations and last night's explosion in the area.

Furthermore, news from Shalaanbood locale in the Lower Shabelle region reports of more battles between Al-Shabaab and the government forces and fatalities were said to have caused after armed men ambushed some troops serving under the government.
