Kenya: Makueni, Safaricom in Tax Payment Deal

The Makueni county government is in talks with Safaricom to digitise revenue collection. Safaricom head of government relations Ronald Osumba said the county leadership identified revenue collection automation as a key partnership area.

He was speaking at Wote town yesterday at a consultative meeting. He said Safaricom will establish a comprehensive taxpayers' database to enable them pay taxes through the M-Pesa service.

Osumba said the move will reduce tax evasion. Makueni Finance executive Alidan Mbinda said boda boda operators are notorious for evading taxes.
