South Africa: Voters Urged to Register Before Roll Closes

Eligible voters, who missed the last voter registration weekend for the upcoming May 7 general election, can still do so today at their respective municipal electoral offices before the voters' roll closes at midnight.

On Friday, President Jacob Zuma announced that together with the nine provincial premiers, he would proclaim the 2014 general election today, signalling the official start of the election timetable, which begins with the closing of the voters' roll.
