Rwanda: Tigo Rwanda Introduces Cross-Border Money Transaction

The new service allows Tigo subscribers in Rwanda to send money from their Tigo 'Cash' accounts to Tigo 'Pesa' subscribers in Tanzania and vice versa. With an integrated currency converter, money is sent in either Rwandan francs or Tanzania shillings and delivered already converted into the currency of the recipient's country.

According to Tongai Maramba, general manager of Tigo Rwanda, the new service will save Tigo subscribers time and money as they can send money directly from phones without even going to a foreign exchange bureau for currency conversion. "This is the first product in the world that allows dual currency international mobile-wallet to mobile-wallet transfers with currency conversion included," he announced.
