Kenya Seeks Sugar Safeguard Extension

KENYA has appealed to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa to consider the sugar safeguard for a further year to enable the country complete outstanding sectoral reforms to make production of the commodity competitive.

Addressing the 17th Comesa Authority Summit of Heads of State and Government in Kinshasa yesterday, Deputy President William Ruto outlined reforms that have been implemented to make the sugar sector in Kenya competitive in line with the conditions directed under the safeguard.
