Kenya: 1,500 Kamiti Prison Inmates Transferred

KENYA Prisons Service has transferred more than 1,500 inmates and one hundred warders from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison. The transfers are meant to stamp out kidnappings and death threats. Several inmates and a senior prison warder were injured during the operation following a face off between the inmate and warders.

Consequently, visitations have been banned since February 1, for one month, until a list of the whereabouts of all inmates has been compiled. A brother to a popular comedian who is an inmate at the prison sustained a cut on the head that needed six stitches and admission to hospital.
