Gambia: Gamcotrap Engages Religious Leaders - As They Look Forward to Ending FGM

The Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children (Gancotrap) Thursday held a two-day regional dialogue for religious leaders from four West African countries, held at the Paradise Suites Hotel in Kololi. The forum was held on the theme: 'Engaging religious leaders towards ending Female Genital Mutilation'. The participants were drawn from The Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania and Guinea Conakry.

Gamcotrap under the sponsorship of Save the Children (SC) organised this two-day dialogue with religious leaders and representatives from communities in order to come to consensus and to also clarify the misconception about FGM and Islam in The Gambia.
