Nigeria: At Centenary Celebration, Former Leaders Preach Unity

A strong patriotic message rang through the speeches of Nigeria's former presidents and heads of state on Friday in Abuja, as they were honoured with awards in commemoration of the country's 100 years. Love for fatherland, prayer for its continued unity and progress, and appeal to the younger generation to do more for the country were the common submissions in the reactions of the former leaders following the awards given them by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sinking their political differences, all Nigeria's living ex-leaders, both military and civilian, came for the awards ceremony, which held at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said the award "means Nigeria is making progress."
