Nigeria: Amaechi, 17 Lawmakers Fault Centenary Celebration

Port Harcourt — GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, has lashed at the Federal Government for rolling out the drums to celebrate the country's 100 years of existence at a time citizens were facing challenges of mindless murder, kidnapping, assassination and other related vices.

The governor, who addressed the state House of Assembly at the old auditorium, Government House, Port Harcourt, said most Nigerians who could have been actively involved in the centenary celebration in Abuja were at filling stations queuing up endlessly for petroleum products, adding that the country was gradually losing appetite for celebrations because of what he blamed on inept political leadership.
