Liberia: Valentine Day Mystery? Is Prez Relative Shielding Alleged Rapist?

Monrovia — An alleged rapist of a 12-year-old girl has been allowed to leave the custody of the Liberia National Police because the families of the victim, particularly her grandmother, a relative of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, is refusing to pursue in the case to the end, adding to the already difficult issues confronting the war against rape in post-war Liberia.

The victim was reportedly raped at the old Road Action field on February 14, Valentine's Day. The victim is said to be the daughter of the grandmother's former husband. The minor's mother is reportedly dead.
