Uganda: Lupita Nyong'o Becomes First Black African to Win Oscar

At Sunday's Academy awards, 31-year-old Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o was the star of the evening in fashion, in history and in Oscar triumph.

Nyong'o, daughter to Kenyan professor Peter Anyang Nyong'o and Dorothy Anyang Nyong'o, becomes the first East African and the first black African to win an Academy award. South African Cherize Theron is the other African to have won an Oscar before Nyong'o. An emotional and overwhelmed Nyong'o took the Oscar for best supporting actress, beating big names such as Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) and Julia Roberts (August: Osage County).
