Sudan: Militiamen Attack Police Station in South Darfur

Menawashi — Five policemen were injured in an attack by militiamen on the police station of Menawashi, South Darfur, on Tuesday. A listener told Radio Dabanga that "government-backed militiamen" in vehicles and on motorcycles, camels, and horses attacked the police station of Menawashi on Tuesday morning. Five policemen were injured, three of them seriously. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. "The gunmen took all the weapons and ammunition from the police station," he added.

He explained that the attack came against the backdrop of the killing of a militiaman accused of murder, abduction, and robbery on the El Fasher-Nyala highway. The militiaman, detained in the prison of Menawashi, was shot dead on Monday evening when he stabbed a policeman in an attempt to escape.
