Kigali — PUMP prices for petrol and diesel in Rwanda have gone down with immediate effect.
The petroleum products are now at Rwf 1,010 from Rwf1,030 per litre.
The changes were effective Thursday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The price has been at Rwf1,030 since November last year.
According to the Ministry, the drop in prices was mainly due to the reduction in oil prices on international markets since December.
The price reduction has caused excitement among motorists and commuters across the country.
"I am happy to hear this because commuter owners where threatening to increase the prices next month.
"I now appeal to Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) a body a charge of regulating public transport to ask commuter owners to reduce transport fees since they usually increase fares once fuel prices go up," said Andrew Matsiko, a daily commuter.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry had increased the pump prices of both diesel and petrol by Rwf3 late last year, citing rising prices of crude oil on the international markets.
