Malawi: Mpondasi CDSS in Fundraising to Help Orphans

Mangochi — Students at Mpondasi Community Day Secondary School had a cleaning up exercise on Friday in some offices in Mangochi as one way of raising funds to help their fellow students who are orphans and the needy and they are failing to pay school fees at the school.

Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency, Chairlady for the cleaning up exercise Joyce Sikiwa who is also a teacher at the school said that the school thought it wise to organize the exercise as one way of raising some funds to help the students who are orphans and the needy at the school as there are so many of them.

"There are some orphans and the needy who are sponsored by government and others Non Governmental Organizations but there is still a big gap as there are so many orphans and those who are needy at the school who are lacking school fees, school books school uniform among others,"Sikiwa said.

She said the target of the exercise was to raise more than three hundred thousand kwacha and they have managed to raise sixty five thousand, two hundred and fifty kwacha.

"We will not stop these exercises until we raise the funds to help the students as we want to help about two hundred of them," she added.
