Less than two weeks ago she asked Big Brother for a voluntary exit before changing her mind and remaining in the game, but tonight (Sunday, 9 March) after 35 days in the House, 23-year-oldstudent Lola from Pietermaritzburg became the latest person evicted from BIG BROTHER MZANSI SECRETS.
Nominated alongside Jase, Kat andThando, Lola scored the fewest viewer votes this week and was promptly eliminated from the 63 day reality series, losing her chance at the mega R 1 million series prize.
Her exit from the house came less than 24 hours after a heated argument between former friends Lola, Thando and Lexi erupted unexpectedly, interrupting what had been a fun birthday for Lexi. In the course of the argument, Lexi smashed a glass bottle which later earned her a strike from Big Brother for endangering other Housemates with her action. Earlier in the day (Saturday, 8 March), Lexi had received a special visit from Boom Shaka’s Thembi Seete who entered the house for a short time bringing with her a specially decorated pink, purple and black birthday cake, plus a copy of her newest solo CD and a fast food gift for the birthday girl.
But tonight the reality of a third emotional eviction hovered over the Housemates. The live Sunday eviction show, screened exclusively on Mzansi Magic at 19:00, was always going to be nerve-wrecking during this crucial week, at the halfway point of the season. And from the moment the show began it was obvious thatHousemates were contemplating just one question, who was leaving? And within the hour, the question had been emphatically answered as Lola walked out onto the Big Brother stage.
But before that point there were several moments that captured viewer attention. First Cassper Nyovest opened the show, performing Gusheshe, featuring Okmalumkoolkat. Then last week’s evictee, cinema loving Kgosi appeared in an insert filmed at the Bioscope in Maboneng, during which he thanked fans for their support and updated them on his plans for the future. Having caught up with Kgosi, BIG BROTHER MZANSI SECRETS presenter Lungile Radu then recapped the week that had past.
Among the highlights and lowlights of the past week – Biggie issued strikes to Jase, Thando and Lola for conspiracy, then an unimpressed Big Brother failed the Housemates at their dance task after Loko revealed a secret mission against his instructions. Meanwhile on Friday night, there was a bittersweet moment for the Housemates as they all made a tough deal with Biggie – in order to get their messages from friends and family at home, they allowed him to share their secrets dossier, exposing their comments and opinions of each other very openly. In the ensuing fallout, one thing became very clear, both to Housemates and viewers, every game has its players.
No one proved that more firmly than Sol when he revealed his ‘save and replace’ choice as HoH last week. He told stunned Housemates that he had not saved Kat, his current romantic interest in the House, but instead had opted to save Mandla and replace him with Thando. As the House struggled to process Sol’s unexpected decision, Biggie cued up the nomination music, and just minutes later, Lola was on her way home after the result was verified by the auditing firm of SizweNtsalubaGobodo.
Appearing on stage, Lola explained her reasons for wanting to take a voluntary exit, and why she’d then changed her mind saying, “At the end of the day it’s difficult in there and I felt for myself and my health, I wanted to get out of there. I told myself if I am going to leave, I am going to leave the way I am supposed to leave”.
She also spoke about her argumentwith Lexi, her gossiping with Thando, her blowout with Jase over what she considered a terrible joke, and finally her much talked about panic attack.
When asked about MK, Lola responded shyishly by saying “MK is one hell of a man”.
With Lola out of the game, Cassper Nyovest closed out the show performing his hit track Doc Shebeleza. Now the attention moves to tomorrow’s (Monday, 10 March) Nomination Show at 21:30 on Mzansi Magic. Remember that this week’s viewer vote begins straight after tomorrow’s Nomination Show at 22:00 and closes at 06:00am next Sunday morning [March 16]. During this time audiences can vote for their favourite Nominated Housemate to stay in the game using any of six ways (listed below).
