Mauritania: ANHRI Denounces the Arrest of Journalists On the Job By Mauritanian Security Forces

Cairo: — The Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), today, condemned the detention of a number of journalists, by Mauritanian security forces, against the backdrop of their profession.

Mauritanian security forces, on Thursday March 6, apprehended six journalists, among them three of "Al Akhbar" news agency crew; they are "Al-Hayba Walid Al-Sheikh Sadaty"- the executive director- "Mohamed Salem Walid Al-Khalifa" and "Ahmed Walid Mohamed Al-Mustafa". The security bodies, also, detained the cameraman of "Sahel" TV, ElHourriya newspaper journalist "Saadyoh Walid Al-Sheikh Mohamed", and journalist "Walid Yacob"- editor-in-chief of "Awasat" news portal, while they were covering a press conference for "Friends of the Prophet" Group at Ben Abbas Mosque in Nouakchott. The journalists were compelled, by the forces, to delete what they had shot; allegedly they have no official licenses to attend the conference. A short period later, the journalists were released after deleting their cameras' contents.
