Ethiopian Appoints New Vice-President Flight Operations

Ethiopian Airlines has appointed Yohannes Hailemariam (Cap.) as vice-president of Flight Operations effective March 3, 2014. Yohannes is a graduate of the Ethiopian Pilot Training School and has over 30 years experience with the Airline.

He joined Ethiopian in 1984, and has served in various capacities, including director of Flying & Training as well as Captain B777 and Check airman before assuming his new position.

Yohannes is replacing Desta Zeru (Cap.), who left the position of vice-president for personal reasons. Desta had deep disagreement with Tewelde Gebremariam, according to sources, although Desta denied this when approached by Fortune.

"I am resigning because of stress," he said. "Nothing else prompted me."

Desta remains a line pilot with the Airline, according to a press release by Ethiopian.

Yohannes will continue the work of his predecessor and the successful implementation of the Ethiopian fast, profitable and successful growth strategic roadmap, the statement said.
