Kenya: Death Toll Rises to 15 in Nandi Accident

Thirteen people died last night following an accident in which a 14-seater matatu heading to Kisii from Eldoret lost control and plunged into a ditch in the valley at Chesangor along Awasi road.

The death toll has today risen to 15 after two of the seven admitted succumed to injuries. Five are still admitted in hospitals receiving treatment with three casualties evacuated to Nandi Hills district hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the matatu who was among the first fatalities of the accident was speeding while navigating sharp bend on the road.

The driver lost control and plunged into a ditch in the valley by the road causing seven deaths on the spot, while six others died in transit to hospital.
